Colombia & Brazil Join Forces on Environmental Issues

Brazil has pledged to be a strategic partner for Colombia in the organization of the Biodiversity Summit (COP16) to be held from 21 October to 1 November in Cali, in the southwest of the country.
On Monday, Colombian Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development announced that Colombia and Brazil agreed to work on a fund for the defense of forests, an initiative that will financially recognize countries that protect these ecosystems.

An assessment of the visit to the South American giant by the head of the aforementioned portfolio, Susana Muhamad, revealed that both countries will host a meeting at the United Nations Assembly of the 17 most biodiverse countries in the world, to be held in New York in September.
The meeting will seek to build an alliance and visibility of the interests of biodiverse countries, highlighting the importance of biological diversity on international agendas, the statement said.
Brazil has also pledged to be a strategic partner for Colombia in the organization of the Biodiversity Summit (COP16) to be held from 21 October to 1 November in Cali, in the southwest of the country.
This support, it was announced, will include the promotion of the largest possible representation of key countries at the international level.
“We have agreed that Brazil will be a strategic partner of Colombia to achieve the highest possible representation of key countries at the COP16 in Colombia,” said the minister, who visited Brazil on 26 and 27 July.
Speaking about the partnership, Muhamad stressed the importance of these joint efforts for the protection and sustainability of the Amazon and global biodiversity, reaffirming Colombia’s commitment to the defence of these vital ecosystems.
